The goal of this project is to encourage the growth of participatory democracy in Malaysia through the innovative use of mobile-based technologies for interaction between local councilors and citizens. Through this system, local councils will better monitor and resolve problems faced by the citizens; whereas for the citizens they will be able to engage with the councilors and participate in the decision making process of local councils.
Using mobile apps for smartphones, citizens can capture and report local issues to a central system. The issues can then be tracked as they progress through the resolution cycle. These apps also act as a communication tool between citizens and councilors, showing announcements and contact info for various city council services.
The system will be piloted with a selected city council in the Klang Valley region. Eventually, we hope that it will be adopted by local councils across Malaysia.
